Prof. Ali C. Beğen Joins Ranks of Global Leaders on the Internet Architecture Board (IAB)

Professor Ali C. Beğen, a faculty member in the Computer Science Program at Özyeğin University, has been elected to serve a two-year term on the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), the premier technical advisory committee of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Internet Society (ISOC). Prof. Beğen is the first representative from an organization in Türkiye to be elected to the IAB. He joins a distinguished group of global experts from institutions and companies that define the cutting edge of Internet technology.

Being one of the most vital bodies overseeing the global internet ecosystem, the IAB plays two significant roles:

• Architectural Leadership: The IAB provides broad and long-range architectural input into the standards-setting processes of the IETF. It is responsible for advising the IETF on technical activities, coordinating the direction of various Internet activities, and ensuring the long-term technical health and evolution of the Internet as a cohesive, global network.
• Internet Governance and Oversight: The IAB holds critical organizational responsibilities within the global framework. It oversees the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF), manages the IETF’s liaison relationships with key international bodies, and provides strategic direction for the administration of the Internet’s protocol registries. Furthermore, the IAB serves as an appeal board for the IETF standards process and confirms appointments to the IETF leadership (IESG).
