The 3rd Women Rectors in Turkey Meeting Takes Place at Özyeğin University

As Özyeğin University, we played host to two important events to discuss and explore a series of projects aimed at preventing gender apartheid in higher education in order to promote the role of women in the academia.

The first of the two events, 3rd Women Rectors in Turkey Meeting, was hosted by Özyeğin University on December 13, 2018 in collaboration with the European Women Rectors Association (EWORA).  The meeting took place with the attendance of 20 current and former women rectors as part of a series of special events in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Özyeğin University’s founding.

The same day, we also organized the panel  “Gender Mainstreaming Actions and Plans of Universities in Turkey” to discuss a series of ongoing projects aimed towards helping women academicians remove the barriers for horizontal and vertical segregation. The panel  “Gender Mainstreaming Actions and Plans of Universities in Turkey” was held jointly with EWORA, which was founded with the goal of developing new strategies to increase the number of women academicians in higher education and promote women ́s equal representation at decision making levels. The panel also addressed the projects that would increase the women’s role in the academia. Chaired by Özyeğin University Rector Prof. Dr. Esra Gençtürk,  the panel was attended by the invited speakers Prof. Dr. Mine Göğüş Tan from Istanbul Technical University, Prof. Dr. Mary Lou O’Neil from Kadir Has University, Dr. Leyla Kayhan Elbirlik from Özyeğin University, and Dr. Ayşe Gül Altınay and Dr. Gülru Göker from Sabancı University.
