Prof. Dr. M. Pinar Mengüç, after graduating from Ankara Science High School, received his BS and MS degrees from METU, Ankara, and in 1985 his PhD from Purdue University, USA. He joined the University of Kentucky. In 2008, he was selected as the UK Engineering Alumni Association Chair Professor. He joined then new-established Özyeğin University, Istanbul in 2009 as the founding Head of Mechanical Engineering. The same year, he started the Centre for Energy, Environment and Economy (CEEE/EÇEM), which he is still directing. He was designated as the FYE Endowed Chair at Özyeğin University in 2022. His research areas include radiative transfer, nano-scale transport phenomena, applied optics, and recently on sustainable energy applications for buildings, cities and industry.
Mengüç served as one of the Editors-in-Chief of Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer (JQSRT) from 2006 to 2024. He is the author of more than 160 articles published in SCI journals, has more than 230 conference papers, more than 120 invited talks, seven books, and eight patents. He has worked with more than 70 MS, PhD and Post-Doc researchers, including 25 at ÖzÜ. He started a company on Particle Characterization with one of his students, which received 2005 R&D Magazine top 100 innovations award. His research has been funded by more than 70 grants in the US, Europe and in Türkiye, totaling more than 14 million USD of funding in total.
He is a fellow of both ASME and ICHMT, and a senior member of OSA. He is an elected member of Science Academy of Turkey. He received the ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award in 2018, Purdue Outstanding Mechanical Engineering Award in 2020, and Elsevier Michael I. Mishchenko Medal in 2022. In 2024, he was selected for the METU Parlar Foundation Honor Award for life-time achievements. In addition, he has received several awards with the CEEE/EÇEM team.
